thursday’s thought

life in blush thursdays thought_feb 19 2015

Last weekend I stopped in at The Big Carrot’s Juice BarΒ Β for one of their Classic Green Smoothies (cucumber, pear, spinach, kale) and noticed a little Shih Tzu tied up outside.

The day was extremely cold and this particular Shih Tzu (with very fine hair) had no coat on and was missing one of his booties. I walked over, and as this tiny creature stood shaking uncontrollably, my heart broke a little.

And made me angry.

how i met your mother

I wanted to scoop him up, bundle him within my coat and go find his human companion.

Dogs are considered the first species to have been domesticated (some schools of thought date it back as far as 100,000 years) and are our oldest non-human ally.

When Shakespeare said “the earth has music for those who listen” I believe he meant to include ‘human’s best friend’ for how could there not be sweetness in this world with an animal who looks at you not with envy, hate or judgement, but only with purity of love and loyalty (where deserved)?

up

I grew up with two Shih Tzu’s (Spanky and Tumble) and a Lhasa Apso (Suzie) and they brought me so much joy. If my life allowed me to have a dog now I would opt for a breed more closely linked to their wild ancestor, the Grey Wolf, like the Siberian Husky.

Blushers, if you have a dog give a shout out in the comments below with their name and why you love them so much. Even if you don’t have a dog, but love them, tell me why and what breed of dog you would have if you could!

Aww I welcome any opportunity to go on about dogs and my dog in particular hehe πŸ˜‰ Saskia is my little princess given to me by my boyfriend on our 2nd anniversary. I had just gotten back from Japan, was still quite upset at being separated from my family (my sister, nephews and mum live in Osaka and no matter how long I live away from them parting is always a heartache) when I opened the door to our flat and a few seconds in from seeing roses on the table I hear pitter patter of paws on the hardwood floor. The dinkiest tiniest Yorkie/Bichon mix is running towards me in all its little furryness and I forget my sadness….all I can say is what? on repeat for 5 minutes cos I just can’t believe the joy of having a puppy in my arms. I immediately Skype my mum in Japan and show her the little fur ball and it’s thanks to her suggestion that I name my new dog Saskia. She’s 5 in May and I can’t imagine my life without her….and I’m so grateful for her everyday. She’s not as affectionate as I’d hoped her to be (think my smothering of love may have something to do with that!) but she has a lot of integrity and I embrace her in her cat-likeness πŸ™‚ She’s my little baby. “I’m suspicious of people who don’t like dogs, but I trust a dog when it doesn’t like a person”. Word.

  • Can I tell you about my cats? I love dogs too… And I have a love for birds, or well, all creatures are fun to observe πŸ˜€
But I feel cats gets a bad rap. Yes, they’re not as obedient as dogs, but they’ll always love you BIG time. Phoebe, our cat, must always be where we are. And everyday my boyfriend comes home for lunch, Phoebe rushes chirping to the door, leaving flying papers and a knocked down cup of tea behind… Maybe not as talkative as this one, but this is kind of how it looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5nKKRhI5dM

I grew up with another cat, who died 2 and a half years ago, she was my angel.
I had a difficult childhood, meaning I’d come home crying my eyes out in my bed. My beloved cat would then jump up, talking, licking, and sometimes even bite me in my head, to sooth me and make me stop. I soon discovered that all I needed to do was to make a crying sound and she would run to me <3
I don't think I'd survive growing up without her.

Phoebe doesn't do that, but I do believe certain people and animals are meant to be at your side in special situations.
Phoebe on the other hand does a funny sound every time someone does a pre-sneezing sound or groan πŸ˜€

I would very much want a dog too πŸ™‚ My boyfriend had a dog and is very much a dogperson (but mostly because he's had cat allergy growing up!) We plan on getting a white golden when we move out of our onesie apartment. I also love the different Spitz, and could even consider getting a Klein Spitz.
But right now I'm actually looking to add another kitteh to our family πŸ˜›

    • omg yes! Thank you for sharing Phoebe’s story πŸ˜€

I had two cats growing up as well (Tessy and Toby) and they were the most loyal cats ever, They had such distinct personalities and always knew when I was happy or sad… and would comfort me accordingly.

p.s. loved the youtube clip! Here’s something for you that should give you a smile πŸ™‚

      • We can establish that all animals are awesome πŸ˜€
I’ll try to imagine the rest of the gif πŸ˜‰
