{review} may lindstrom the honey mud gentle cleansing silk

May Lindstrom, master chef of luxurious skincare treats, has once again proved to us why her products deserve a permanent spot on our beauty shelf.

Right before Christmas she debuted her latest decadent creations – the honey mud gentle cleansing silk and the blue cocoon -and, like the rest of her skincare lineup, these two were clearly created with the same loving attention to detail. Already a fan of May’s the clean dirt and the problem solver I couldn’t wait to add these to my ritualistic cleansing routine.

If you’ve never heard of, or experienced one of May’s skin treats, you need to put it at the top of your 2014 beauty priority list. Trust me. You’ll want to keep it all to your self.

…I’ve broken up my review of May’s newest creations into two parts. Today I’m focusing on ‘the honey mud’, but check back on Monday when I give you the full scoop on ‘the blue cocoon’…

A highly requested addition to the May Lindstrom line, ‘the honey mud’ looks like chocolate pudding and smells like Terry’s Chocolate Orange (you know the one you treat yourself to at Christmas?)…so…yes…I quite literally thought about eating a spoonful of it. But instead, and if you’ve been reading this blog for awhile this should come as no surprise to you, I stuck my nose into the jar and inhaled…for awhile.

When I reached out to May initially to find out more about this product and why she created it her answer was filled with excitement in typical May fashion.

The Honey Mud is my total dream product: a pudding-like blend of all my favorite things! It’s super luscious and truly adaptable for all skin types, including the most delicate. Not all skin types benefit from daily exfoliation, however gentle, so my clients would ask what to use on the days in between treatments with The Clean Dirt. This is the answer. It also doubles as a masque, a gentle and luxurious treat to alternate with The Problem Solver for an entirely different effect.

So what are a few of May’s favourite things? Here’s the full ingredient list:

Raw Honey, White Halloysite Clay, Organic Macadamia Integrifolia (Macadamia Nut Oil), Organic Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel), Argentum Metallicum (Colloidal Silver), Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa Absolute) Oil, Organic Citrus Sinensis (Sweet Orange) Oil, Organic Cananga Odorata (Ylang-Ylang) Oil, Organic Vanilla Planifolia (Vanilla) CO2 Total Essential Oil, Organic Juniperus Virginiana (Cedarwood) Oil, Boswellia Carteri (Frankincense) Oil, Commiphora Myrrha (Myrrh) Oil

At first I was concerned that the witch hazel would be a bit to drying for my already dry skin, but May assured me that it’s concentration was very low and the blend was primarily pure plant oils -both healing and hydrating.

how to use ‘the honey mud’

if you’re a girl in a rush!

no need to add water to activate this product, just scoop this deliciously gooey pudding out of the jar and massage it into your face. To speed things up even further add a pinch of water and your pudding will turn into a milky-like consistency that effectively and quickly removes make-up and pore gunk. What I appreciate about this blend is that, unlike other raw honey cleansing blends, this one doesn’t tug at your skin as you attempt to work it around your face.

frequency: advertised as gentle enough to use every day I found that my skin reacted best when I used it no more than 3x per week. Any more than that and I found it had a slightly drying effect. But everyone’s skin is different so you may be completely fine.

if you have the luxury of time

spread this sinfully decadent chocolate goodness over your face and let it sit for about 15 mins while you catch up on your gossip & beauty blogs. Active ingredients like white halloysite clay and raw honey firmly absorb toxins and impurities from your skin leaving it looking clearer -and softer thanks to the macadamia nut oil.

frequency: treat it like a mask and use it 1-2x per week

if you want to be spice things up

take your experience with ‘the honey mud’ to the next level by mixing it with May’s other two cult favourites -‘the clean dirt’ and ‘the problem solver’ – and let the magic take over.

frequency: mix it with ‘the problem solver’ 1-2x per week and with ‘the clean dirt’ as often as you would use an exfoliator.

price: $85 CDN / $80 US for 100ml

where to buy: Eco Diva Beauty

for the win? on quality of ingredients and efficacy it’s a no-brainer, but the price is a little steep for me. I received it as a sample, but I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase it on my own as a treat once in awhile. In short if you have an itch to splurge then this is definitely a splurge-worthy item! After all the effects of having such smooth and radiant skin could make for a very interesting evening.

You aren’t joking when you say this smells amazing. I got a sample today and I may have licked a little off of my lips. I couldn’t help it even though I know it’s not for eating, it just smelled too delicious.

    • lifeinblush

well the ingredients technically are edible so…there’s no judging if a bit accidentally made its way past your lips 😉

  • Garcy

I can’t handle the clips in your blogs. They make me smile or laugh out loud every time! “I was just hoping to take you to bed”-too much 🙂

    Thanks for the love sweets!

Hey Garcy! Glad you love the clips as much as I love finding the ‘perfect’ ones to include. I typically giggle to myself as I add them and hope people will find the humour in them as well 🙂 Hope you’re enjoying mexico! although how can you not? 😉 xo

Luxury and pampering for your skin found in one little jar. Sounds good to me!

  • I actually just received the samples samples I ordered from Fresh Faced last night. I tried the Honey Mud last night as a mask and really loved it. I did get the sense though, that I’d need to be careful about overuse as I have dry skin as well. But the scent is ridiculous!

I know right?! I can’t get over how all of May’s products have a unique and wonderful scent. Truly a master skin chef 🙂

Hope you’re having a great weekend Maria! xo
