{review} mabrook & co. clean deodorant

mabrook and co deodorant review by life in blush

Legend has it that men in the 16th century would attract ladies by tucking kerchiefs under their armpits and then waving it in the air (to release their pheromones) when women were near to excite their interest.

I’d rather a man cook me dinner made from wild and foraged ingredients, or surprise me with a last minute trip away to jack my interest up, but hey to each their own.

Regardless, our natural aroma is as original as our fingerprint and should never, ever be masked with harsh chemicals, like those found in all drug store deodorants.

One day when I was thumbing through Instagram I saw that Mabrook & Co., a line of deodorants formulated without any harmful toxins or chemicals, had chimed in on a photo of mine about Idris Elba.

We instantly bonded.

Several conversations later I had the pleasure of finally meeting Aliya, the brains and brawn behind this Toronto brand, and as she excitedly told me about her line of unisex deodorants and why they work I found myself getting pretty stoked to try them too.

So what’s Mabrook & Co. all about and why are they worth your dollar?

“Mabrook” means blessed in Arabic. We believe that your body is blessed, deserving of your adoration and respect. We believe that you should never have to compromise your health when it comes to the way you feel, look, and smell. We believe in being kind to ourselves, each other, and the planet. We believe that we can all make a positive change in the lives of others.

A portion of each sale will be donated to Women for Women International, a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and empowering women in conflict ridden countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, and Nigeria.

Mabrook & Co. offers three scents created from pure essential oil blends – Eucalyptus & Spice, Lavender & Herb, and Vanilla & Mint – and after obsessively sniffing them all I settled on Vanilla & Mint as my favourite.

ingredients: cocos nucifera* (coconut), maranta arundinacea (arrowroot), cera alba* (beeswax), sodium bicarbonate, tocopherol (vitamin E), vanilla planifolia essential oil, mentha arvensis essential oil*, mentha spicita essential oil*, melaleuca alternifolia essential oil*. {*=organic}

directions: apply to dry, clean skin and let it melt into you for a minute or two before putting on your clothes (to avoid any staining from the oils).

One swipe is all you need! (seriously you don’t need any more than that)

performance: chalk full of anti-fungal and anti-bacterial ingredients this blend can also attribute its star performance to the oil absorbing power of arrowroot.

I walk about 30 minutes every day to work and usually by the time I arrive I’m a sweaty hot mess because of the pace I walk at (due to the fact my love for sleep has me perpetually late for everything).

When I got to work I popped into the bathroom to sniff out my armpits and was VERY impressed to find that it had indeed absorbed some of my sweat while maintaining its gorgeous vanilla/mint scent.

But what really blew my mind I think was the length of time in which it kept my underarm aroma balanced. At the end of the day I was pretty much smelling as fresh as I did when I first put it on.

price: $16 for 90g (this will last you a REALLY long time so cost per use is pennies)

where to buy: Mabrook & Co , The Cure Apothecary, or Clementine Fields

for-the-win?

You bet it is.

(but seriously guys, girls, maybe even pets if they’ve got anxiety sweats going on, all of you should try it. I promise you you’re going to be loving it just as hard. And ladies if you’re picking one up for a guy get the Lavender & Herb. I did a blind scent test and they all picked the same one.)
