{review} kjaer weis ‘desired glow’

kjaer weis cream blush 'desired glow'

A few years ago you’d be hard pressed to find a decent green beauty product that performed anywhere near it’s mainstream counterpart. I even remember my university marketing professor saying that the industry would never take off because the shelf life of its products was so short. I called bullsh*t then and I’m glad to see I was proven right now.

Kirsten Kjaer Weis, a danish-born makeup artist (with gorgeous skin might I add) created the first luxe, organic refillable makeup system that stemmed from her vision of an organic line that could go head to head with any department store brand. After trying her cream blush/bronzer (desired glow), and subsequently her mascara and eye shadow (reviews coming soon!), her line-up of little beauties not only goes head to head, but in my opinion beats the crap out of them all.

score card

colour – a beautiful, subtle tan. I was unsure at first of how it would resonate on my snow white skin, but I quickly realized how silly that was! As one who never tans, this was the perfect solution to give me a “just got back from Capri” glow.

performance – easy to apply with either your fingers, or a cream blush brush, you can build the colour to what suits you best. *tip* keep your skin well hydrated to make make-up application even easier.

ingredients –  made with the highest quality natural and organic ingredients, it has been Certified Organic by the CCPB, the Italian organic certifying authority.

packaging – legendary. Nestled in a gorgeous red box with the proud affirmation ‘made in italy’ affixed to it, you realize you’re dealing with a life-changer the moment you pick it up. The heavy geometric casings are made of alloy, with a lid that slides and clicks shut with real presence.  A truly beautiful, contemporary design.

price – $57 initially, and then $28 after that to buy the refill. Get it online here and here

for-the-win? no contest. This little beauty is now one of my “children” (i.e. collection of favourite products) whom I will be taking with me on my trip to Europe…in two days – eeek!

*product generously provided, but as always opinions are my own!

Geez, what a stunner! That colour looks amazing on your flawless snow white skin. Loved the review and, of course, now I want it! xo

    • oh goodness you’re making me blush! thanks so much Nicole you made my day 🙂 And yes, you must try it! xo

  • Lindsay

What do you men by the shelf life of the organic products compared to mainstream? Do they not last as long? Just starting to switch to some green products. Thanks 🙂

    • Hey Lindsey!

Mainstream products contain quite a few preservatives to ensure they last a long time on retail shelves (thus ensuring the manufacturer/retailer doesn’t lose profit due to spoiled inventory). Back when organic make-up was first starting to make an appearance there was a concern that due to the lack of chemical preservatives a product would only last 3-6 months. Since most of us tend to want to keep our makeup for much longer than that it was thought consumers wouldn’t buy into this. That being said, the organic skin care and make-up industry have come a long way and the concerns brought up before are no longer valid. They last just as long, but with any beauty product should be tossed around their recommended expire date (i.e 3 months for mascara).

Hope that helps! I’m so excited you’re starting to make the switch 😀

This is one of the best reviews of Kjaer Weis I’ve ever read. The new mascara is so incredible and I’m treating my sisters to this line this Fall. They will fall in love too.

I feel just like you Sonja, my beautiful pieces are like my children I love them so! That’s how real beauty lovers feel.

    • Hi Victoria

You humble me so much with your praise! Thank you for taking the time to read my post and to leave a comment.

What lucky sisters! I’m so excited for them to discover this line and love it as much as we do. I had read so many reviews of the mascara, touting its life-changing status and until you try it only then do you get how truly incredible it is. I also picked up the ‘pretty purple’ eye shadow and agree with you that it builds to such a lovely shade of plum 🙂
