{review} josh rosebrook deep nourishing shampoo

So, you’re not exactly going to love me for recommending this shampoo post holiday wallet lock-down and all, but hear me out. It’s worth the splurge.

Whenever I need to give myself an awesome hair day I whip this little beauty out.

The Josh Rosebrook Deep Nourishing Shampoo is $30 for a 240ml (8oz) bottle (I know, I know, but again hear me out) and after using it for a couple of weeks I began to think about it like my favourite lipstick. You know that special colour that never lets you down and always makes you feel like a boss?

Now, I have this weird tick where I obsessively touch my hair to test for softness and study it for split ends, so any new shampoo I try goes through a pretty intense analysis. I first scrutinize its scent, then the suds factor and finally how it makes my hair feel.

Ok if I’m being totally honest there’s a few broadway performances in between the suds test and the touch test.

  • scent test: lawdy it’s been awhile since I’ve smelt a shampoo this invigorating. Lemon peel and mandarin take center stage and gently but firmly smack you in the face with their energizing-yet-calming personalities. Feel free to judge, but I take more than a few seconds at the start of my shower to just inhale and appreciate the aroma.
  • suds test: there’s a ‘normal’ amount of lather (i.e. nothing crazy like a sulfate filled shampoo) and you can definitely tell it’s not stripping your hair of its natural oils. How? There’s no squeaky clean feel. (Repeat after me: squeaky clean is bad for my hair)
  • touch test: air dry or blow dry the end result is incredibly soft hair. I normally have to wage battle when it comes to taming my frizzies and while this shampoo didn’t take it away completely I was impressed with how well it minimized it.

So did Josh’s shampoo win me over?
