{review} barbary fig seed oil

la bella figura barbary fig seed oil / lifeinblush.com

Barbary fig seed oil – you probably haven’t heard of it, but it’s kind of a big deal. This hidden gem sat on the bench for many years while team stars like jojoba, sweet almond, argan, -and one of my favourites – coconut oil took center stage, but with clear eyes and full hearts this beauty isn’t going to lose (and yes I just made a blatant reference to FNL).

I first discovered the oil when I stumbled upon the brand La Bella Figura who was one of the first, if not the first, to bring this oil to market (thank you!). Derived from a cactus commonly known as prickly pear, the seeds are only 5% oil making it one of the most expensive and precious oils in the world due to the low yields per batch -1,000 kilos of fruit makes 1L of oil.

Why is it a big deal? Check out these stats:

  • extraordinary anti-ageing powers thanks to vitamin E and linoleic acid (omega 6)
  • fights wrinkles and under-eye darkness (woot woot!) and is far superior than argan oil, which is actually a positive thing for consumers and producers since the argan tree is endangered
  • powerful antioxidant stimulates cell renewal and helps protect against free radicals
  • reduces rosacea, soothes sunburns and calms inflammation
  • small molecular structure allows it to be easily absorbed for maximum benefit without leaving any oily residue behind

Why do I love it? Let me count the ways. I’ve fondly come to call this little beauty my elixir of life because it brightens my complexion and leaves my skin feeling drunk on hydration, firm and velvety – reminding me of the skin I had in high school. The only thing I could quibble about is the price ($99 CAD), but if used sparingly it will last you 6-9 months.

Blushers, when I come across a product that makes me feel this passionate I get very excited to share it with you since the there are so many beauty products out there, making it hard to weed out the gems. My elixir of life is seriously a game changer, now firmly planted on my shelf of beauty must-haves.

    Hello there,

Thank you for this excellent review! We are so happy you found our products and certainly this one which has become your special elixir of life! Our barbary fig seed oil is pure, cold pressed to our order (for absolute potency and freshness) from just the seeds and not the entire pulp of the fruit which doesn’t produce quite a pure or quality oil. It truly is special and for those that suffer from skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, eczema and psoriasis it can be a skin healer and savior. So happy to read your review.

    Cheers,
    Victoria
