{diy} blood orange & white fir body oil

DIY blood orange and white fir summer body oil by life in blush

The study of plants, and especially the essential oils we derive from them, has been dominating my thoughts more and more frequently and, as I throw myself deeper down the rabbit hole of aromatherapy, I’ve found myself looking for new and interesting ways to combine scents that will relax, stimulate and balance the mind and body.

Drenching my skin with oils is just one of the rituals I love best after a bath or shower and last night I felt creative enough to come up with a body oil that would quench the skin with hydration and the mind with cheer.

blood orange & white fir body oil

  • 60ml avocado oil
  • 40ml olive oil
  • 40ml hemp oil
  • 40ml calendula oil
  • 20ml rosehip oil
  • essential oils of blood orange**, white fir and clary sage

*use organic and cold-pressed oils when possible
**citrus oils are known to cause photo-sensitivity so it is recommended to use this body oil at night

blend oils together and add desired amount of essential oils. The hemp oil is what gives the final blend it’s rich, dark colour, but if you prefer a lighter-looking oil you can omit it or replace it with another favourite oil like grape seed or jojoba.

avocado oil is a perfect choice for dehydrated and mature skin as it contains large amounts of antioxidants, like vitamins A, D and E, and it penetrates the outer layers of the skin allowing the oil to be more deeply absorbed.

hemp seed oil is believed to be nature’s most perfectly balanced oil as it contains a 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 EFAs that moisturize your skin. These omegas also have great anti-aging benefits and help relieve dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis.

calendula oil contains active principles of the marigold flower, is anti-inflammatory and aids tissue regeneration.

rosehip oil is extremely high in essential fatty acids, effectively hydrating dry skin and alleviating scarring and signs of wrinkles.

blood orange essential oil calms the nerves, relaxes the spirit and evokes cheer.

white fir essential oil is a powerful antioxidant and supporter of the immune system. Grounding and invigorating it also improves breathing and clarifies the mind.

clary sage essential oil supports female hormonal processes and inspires feelings of euphoria. This ancient oil has also been called “one of the most enigmatic essential oils in aromatherapy’s mysterious medicine chest.”
